Esso Sign of Happy Motoring with Happy the Oil Drop Man Laser Cut Metal Sign. Introduced in Europe during World War II, Happy the Esso Oil Drop Man was a familiar mascot through the 1960s. Standard Oil, the parent company of Esso, brought Happy to US shores in 1958 to promote the Esso gasoline brand.
